What is On Page SEO?
It’s the quality of the content IE text, images and videos that are used on your website.
If you are about to consider SEO for your marketing for the first time or looking to improve the rank of your website the best place to start is with on page SEO factors
Google will rank your website based upon how relevant the page content is to the user’s search terms and whether or not the content contributes to a good user experience.
So what 3 things can you consider to improve your On Page SEO Ranking?
1. Page Load Speed
If you’ve watched any of our other videos, you’ll know we are big on web page load speeds. Load speeds affect customer conversion rates, but did you know Google actually factors your web page load speeds into how highly it ranks your website. Fast web page load speeds equals a higher ranking.
Many businesses do not realise that around 2 years ago, Google released the mobile first index, meaning they factor mobile load speeds over desktop load speeds, no matter what sector your business is in. If you have a poor performing mobile website, you will fall in rank!
Go away and physically load your website on your mobile phone! How long does it take to load? To be sure, you can use the tool “Think with Google” and see how well your site performs. If it is falling into the red area of more than 2.5 seconds to load, you could be missing out on valuable traffic due to a poor SEO ranking.
If your website is not loading fast, we have a video “5 ways to improve your website’s optimisation” but in short you can keep image sizes small, host videos on sites other than your own and keep your web code as tidy as possible.
2. Content Length and Content Quality
An important metric in On Page SEO is the word count of your web page. When we write our own blog articles at RACER, we know that they need to be a minimum of 3,000 words in order to rank highly on Google.
Now notice I said blog articles. You shouldn’t have 3,000 unnecessary words on your home-page or landing page, this will be awful for your user experience.
You should be providing useful content to your customers, in the form of blog articles that exist on your website. The blogs should cover search terms your target audience may be searching for, such as issues they are having related to a product or service you offer.
These blogs will be filled with useful information and keywords related to the search terms your business is targeting. This will drive traffic to your website and is a fundamental part of On Page SEO.
Google will check the word count and content length of these blogs and favour webpages in rank if they hit a substantial word count, such as 3,000 words.
The content must be relevant and not use black hat techniques such as keyword stuffing or hiding text somewhere on the page. Make sure your text headings such as H1 and H2 headings contain relevant keywords. This will contribute to the way Google ranks your page.
3. LSI Keywords
LSI Keywording follows on from our previous . LSI Keywords is defined as “Latent Semantic Indexing” and covers other terms that your audience may be interested in that are still related to the keywords you are targeting on a web page.
To put it simply, ask yourself, what else could my customers be searching for related to the same keyword?
We have a client who specialises in Loft Ladders. To improve their ranking, we will make sure that the web page also relates to terms such as home attics, attic access points and more. Go ahead and try adding content which covers other terms related to your main targeted keyword.
Just remember, Google’s algorithm isn’t easily fooled. This cannot be at the expense of the user experience, meaning your text copy cannot be full of random keywords that do not read well for the user. Google will notice, so make sure any of the information in the text is easy to read and is optimised for your user experience.
