The virus, also called the Novel Coronavirus and SARS-CoV-2, began infecting people in Wuhan, China in December. There are now 64,170 confirmed cases worldwide and 1,486 dead. (63,584 of the cases are in China.) Numerous Chinese cities with a total population of over 50 million people (including Wuhan) are under full or partial lockdown to help stop the spread of the virus and its associated disease (called COVID-19). There are now 15 cases in the US and new cases in Japan, Hong Kong, and elsewhere.
