Today I want to discuss why drugs may be so prevalent in the hip hop community. As of recently, many talented young artists have died due to drug overdose, and it seems that drug use has become embedded into hip hop culture. Why is this? Are young artists inspiring others to use, or simply expressing their art and their own struggles with drug use? Is hip hop culture toxic, requiring one to use and talk about using just to portray an "image" or is there more to it? And how does this affect society, with hip hop being one of, if not the, most popular music genre, and the drug epidemic growing stronger. It's all a bit of a darker subject, but one I can't seem to stop thinking about. So, I thought I would research more about it and talk about it today.
