Priti Patel lays out plans for new point-based immigration policy

Priti Patel lays out plans for new point-based immigration policy Home Secretary Priti Patel said the UK has been too long 'dependent' on EU low-skilled labour as she explained the government's new point-based immigration system in Westminster.

Patel claimed this policy will bring overall immigration numbers down by reducing the number of low-skilled individuals entering the UK as well as by ending freedom of movement thanks to Brexit.

The Home Secretary said the system was designed 'for the brightest and the best', as it aims at creating a 'highly productive, highly efficient and highly dynamic economy'.

Patel also asserted Scotland won't be exempt from this system, which 'will apply to the whole of the United Kingdom'.
