The Pulse: Indians First

The Pulse: Indians First On this edition of The Pulse, we're being joined by a group of fellow citizens who've lived this journey - from China to the Chhawla camp - before being allowed to go home... We also have with us some members of the evacuation team - who led from the front and successfully brought those in distress - back home. All of us are aware of how the novel coronavirus has wreaked havoc in neighbouring China...The deadly virus has claimed more than 2,200 lives so far in China. Nearly 76,000 people have been confirmed with the infection in the country, with more than 62,000 cases from Hubei province. Its provincial capital Wuhan has recorded more than 45000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, as on date. Even as we stand with China in its efforts to contain the epidemic, what comes as a huge relief to us is that India evacuated a majority of its citizens stranded in Wuhan - the epicentre of the outbreak - which has been locked down for a month now. A total of 647 Indian nationals and seven Maldivians were brought back in two flights by a special team comprising of Air India crew members, doctors and nursing officers. The evacuated citizens were kept under quarantine at an ITBP camp in Delhi and an Army centre in Haryana's Manesar. They were all discharged earlier this week after testing negative for coronavirus.
